If you’re looking for things to do this weekend in York – I’ve got you!

I grew up in York, South Carolina, so when I heard there was a York County here in PA I knew I HAD to explore. There’s so much here for outdoor lovers, soft adventurers, and anyone craving fresh air and even fresher meals.

I’ve hiked the trails, sipped craft brews, and picked lavender straight from the field on trips to York for the last two years, and now I’m sharing my favorite weekend itinerary so you can skip the planning and just go.

Whether you’re looking for flower fields, scenic hikes, or local bites with river views, this guide is designed for anyone who craves nature, rest, and a plan that’s already done for you.

Here’s how I would spend a weekend in York:

York PA Weekend Day 1 – All-Day Agritourism Adventures

Your weekend in York kicks off with soft adventure and good vibes. Today is all about slowing down, getting outside, and soaking in everything that makes this area so charming.

From picking your own flowers in peaceful farm fields to sipping local brews after a walk through railroad history, this day is full of feel-good moments. I can never pass up a bouquet of lavender and always love visiting the local farms when I’m here.

Whether you’re reconnecting with nature or just trying to shake off the workweek, the countryside of York County has you covered.

A young alpaca with freshly shorn fur and brown-and-white markings stands on a shaded patch of grass, looking toward the camera. Castle Creek Farm offers charming agritourism experiences in York County, Pennsylvania.

Morning: Picking Flowers at Flinchbaugh’s Orchards or Castle Creek Farm

Start your weekend in York County with one of my favorite slow mornings: picking a bouquet of flowers.

At Flinchbaugh’s Orchards, you’ll find seasonal blooms like tulips in the spring and huge, golden sunflowers in late summer. It’s peaceful, colorful, and the perfect way to settle into the weekend.

If you’re visiting in early summer, I recommend Castle Creek Farm. They let you cut your own lavender bouquets, and it smells absolutely amazing out in the fields.

Plus, you can hang out with the alpacas while you’re there. They’re ridiculously cute. And if you want even more fuzzy friends, swing by Shear Haven Farm nearby.

A woman in a green striped dress stands on lush grass at John Wright Restaurant, a farm-to-table spot by the Susquehanna River with the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge in the distance under a bright blue sky. A scenic stop along a weekend itinerary in York County, Pennsylvania.

Afterwards, head to lunch at John Wright Restaurant right along the Susquehanna River. The food is fresh, made with ingredients from local farms, and the view is unbeatable. Trust me, you’re going to want to linger a little longer here.

Pro tip: stop by Half Nuts Popcorn down the street for a road-trip snack. This small family-owned roadside stop makes gourmet popcorn that you’ll have a hard time putting down.

A woman stands on the wooden platform of the Northern Central Railway with train tracks curving into the trees. A gravel path runs parallel to the tracks making up the Heritage Rail Trail.

Afternoon: Hit the Trails with Rails and Ales

Spend your afternoon exploring the Heritage Rail Trail – a 27 mile gravel trail running from north of York City all the way to the Maryland Border. You can bike it, walk it, or even ride the train if you want to kick back and enjoy the views before you sip your brews.

I enjoyed combining all 3 on the Ales on the Rails beer tour on the Northern Central Railway – riding the historic train while tasting beers was a lot of fun. The train had vintage furniture and even old LIFE magazines – remember those?

Along the way, check out historic spots like the Howard Tunnel or Hanover Junction, and soak in the peaceful scenery that captures Pennsylvania’s old railroad era.

Once you’ve worked up a thirst, it’s time for a different trail. Download the Good Libations Trails app and check-in to a local brewery for a pint and some points. Stop-in to a few craft breweries along the trail like Vortex, Alecraft, or even Mudhook right in town.

Close-up of a tray with pulled pork, cornbread, coleslaw, baked beans, and dipping sauces, with a pint of beer in the background and golden sunlight streaming in. A mouthwatering barbecue meal washed down perfectly with craft beer made right on site is what awaits at South County Brewing.

Evening – Night by the Fire

Wrap up your first day in York with a night under the stars. Set up camp at Gifford Pinchot or Codorus state parks and sit back by the campfire for the evening.

Cook your favorite camp meal and enjoy the stars for a night that you never see in the city. The skies out here are wide open, and if you’re used to city life, the stars will seriously wow you.

If camping isn’t your thing, head to South County Brewing instead. Their fire pits are perfect for a cozy night out, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch some live music while you sip craft brews made right inside.

I enjoyed the barbeque platter here and the golden light at sunset was the perfect end to my day.

Weekend Itinerary in York Day 2 – Outdoor Escapes from Sunrise to Sunset

After a peaceful night under the stars, it’s time to soak up another full day of fresh air and soft adventure. Today’s plan moves at your pace, with space for quiet moments, slow paddles, and a good meal with a view.

Morning – Sunrise Hike and Morning Coffee

Start your second day with a peaceful sunrise hike. You can begin right from your campsite or take a quick drive to Susquehanna Riverlands State Park. This is Pennsylvania’s newest state park, and the trail to the overlook is short and easy, with minimal elevation changes. It ends at a rocky cliff with sweeping views over the Susquehanna River, and there’s nothing like watching the sun climb over the water to start your day.

If you’re collecting stamps in your PA State Parks Passport, don’t forget to bring it along.

The park doesn’t have a visitor’s center, so you’ll have to go to the Zimmerman Center for Heritage to get your stamp.

Pro tip: this is also a great spot to add to your itinerary offering guided tours on a 100+ year old boat.

After your hike, grab breakfast at a local coffee shop if you haven’t already. Britton Coffee Co is a cozy shop I enjoyed one morning after camping in Codorus State Park.

Woman in a white top and red skirt sits smiling on the cushioned bench of a vintage wooden boat named Chief Uncas cruising the Susquehanna River. A peaceful and scenic river excursion during a weekend getaway in York County.

If you’re closer to Gifford Pinchot, Leona’s Café & Bakery is your go-to for baked goods and hot coffee. And if you’re staying in town, head to The Hive for a warm, modern café vibe or Oxford Hall for a charming tea shop.

Two naturalists with binoculars stand beside a pond on a wooded nature trail, surrounded by early spring foliage. Birdwatching in serene natural surroundings is a quiet highlight of a weekend itinerary in York County.

Afternoon – Your Pick of Birding or Kayaking

For a chill afternoon outdoors, you’ve got two great options. If you want to be on the water, head to Redman and Williams lakes at William H. Kane County Park, where York County Parks offers rentals to get out on the water. Visitors can rent boards, boats, and even hydro-bikes to enjoy.

If you like birding or just want a slower paced walk, Nixon County Park is the place to be. With winding nature trails and a small but charming nature center, it’s a great spot for birdwatching or just meandering through the woods without a rush.

Be sure to stop into the nature center which is run by local naturalists who are experts on the flora and fauna of Pennsylvania. I thought the display on rock samples from throughout York County was interesting, and the guides were able to tell me about where to find carnivorous plants in PA! (Sadly though not in York County)

Hand holding a wooden flight of four ciders labeled OG Cider, Pineapple Mango, Peach Bellini, and Honey Lavender, with a picnic-style lawn in the background. A refreshing tasting experience during a York County weekend getaway.

Evening – Sunset on a patio

End the day the way you started – with a gorgeous sunset sky in York County’s beautiful outdoors. This time by way of patio at one of the many farm-to-table restaurants or breweries.

Find a patio, order something local, and enjoy that easy evening breeze.

Wyndridge Farm is one of my favorites for this, with a biergarten behind their dining room complete with bistro lights. They grow and source their own ingredients and make their ciders, beers, and wines right on the farm.

I had a hard time choosing from their rotating cider menu, but I fell in love with the Honey Lavender Cider. Don’t worry, there is a classic cider option and plenty of other unique flavors too, from pineapple mango to gingerbread to mojito.

Rich slice of peanut butter pie topped with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and fudge drizzle, artfully plated on a white dish. A must-try dessert from local York County farm-to-table spot Wyndridge Farm.

And don’t skip dessert. The peanut butter pie with chocolate drizzle was rich, creamy, and just the right amount of indulgent.

It’s one of those desserts you think about days later.. totally worth saving room for.

Day 3 of Your Weekend Guide: City Vibes in York, PA

After two days of flower fields and forest trails, it’s time to trade in your hiking boots for something a little more city-chic. I can never resist a good brunch followed by browsing bookshops, and York’s downtown totally delivers.

Morning: Brunch in Downtown York

Colorful brunch spread at a downtown York diner featuring a cast-iron skillet of scrambled eggs with veggies, grilled toast, a glass of orange juice, and a chocolate milkshake. ROOST Uncommon Kitchen is a vibrant and cozy spot for breakfast in York, Pennsylvania.

Start your final morning with a slow, satisfying brunch.

I headed to ROOST Uncommon Kitchen, right next to their sister spot Archetype Pizza, and it did not disappoint.

I started with one of the prettiest coffees I’ve ever seen with edible luster dust, then went big with a skillet breakfast and a giant mimosa.

The perfect way to top off a relaxing weekend of exploring.

Afternoon: Shopping Before You Go

Before you hit the road, spend some time wandering York’s historic downtown. It was actually named one of the most beautiful Main Streets in the country, and it’s easy to see why. This is where the Articles of Confederation were signed, so there’s history around every corner, but it still feels fresh and vibrant.

Pop into locally owned boutiques, vintage shops, and the Central Market House, which takes up nearly an entire city block.

Woman posing in front of a vibrant mural of a crowned bird and the words “I am just a bird for spoken word” in a painted alley at Royal Square. A quirky and artistic photo op in downtown York, Pennsylvania.

Don’t miss Bound Books for new reads, and if you’re a fan of used bookstores like I am, head to In Between Pages.

Just around the corner, Royal Square is packed with colorful murals and artsy vibes, it’s perfect for some IG recap pics.

Foil tray of loaded fries topped with crumbled cheese and tomatoes, a cone of crispy Brussels sprouts, dipping sauce, and a flight of four craft beers. Collusion Brewing offers a casual dining experience in downtown York, perfect for foodies exploring local flavors.

And if you’re still hungry after brunch (I won’t judge), grab a craft beer and some loaded fries at Collusion Tap Works across the street.

I went for the Greek fries and they hit the spot.
